BEYOND THE HORIZON

Places we haven’t been yet. Reasons we might go.
Not every idea is a mission.
Beyond the Horizon is where we keep the places that have caught our attention but haven’t yet made the jump to active planning. Some are destinations we’ve wanted to visit for years. Others may begin with a photograph, a recommendation, a road sign, something discovered while researching another mission, or the simple realization that we’ve never been there.
There may not be a date. There may not even be much of a plan.
Yet.
This is where those possibilities wait.
When one of them becomes something we’re seriously preparing to do, it leaves Beyond the Horizon and joins the Active Missions roster.
Until then, they’re reasons to keep looking at the map.
There is always somewhere else to go.
VIRGINIA ARBORETUMS
Virginia
Begin with the State Arboretum of Virginia at Blandy Experimental Farm, then use it as the starting point for exploring arboretums and botanical spaces around the Commonwealth.
This could become more than a single mission: different landscapes, different seasons, changing colors, native and unusual plants, architecture, trails, and plenty of opportunities to return with a camera throughout the year.

WALT DISNEY WORLD & EPCOT
Orlando, Florida
A return to Walt Disney World built around exploration rather than simply checking attractions off a list.
EPCOT is an obvious Endeavour destination in its own right: technology, imagination, cultures, food, architecture and a park originally conceived around ideas of what tomorrow might become.
And there are considerably worse reasons for a mission than spending a few days wandering around World Showcase to see what we discover.

STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE
Disney’s Hollywood Studios • Orlando, Florida
If we’re going to build a project around getting aboard a ship and going somewhere just to see what’s there, eventually we’re probably going to have to visit another galaxy.
Galaxy’s Edge offers something different from simply visiting a theme park: the opportunity to step into a deliberately constructed place, wander through Black Spire Outpost, explore its details, photograph the environment and experience the storytelling built into the world around us.
And, yes, there is a certain Corellian freighter we should probably inspect while we’re there.

UNIVERSAL EPIC UNIVERSE
Orlando, Florida
A completely new theme park is almost the literal definition of going somewhere just to see what’s there.
Epic Universe offers several distinct worlds to explore, each with its own architecture, environments, attractions and visual identity. Rather than treating it simply as a collection of rides, this mission would be about experiencing those different spaces and seeing which ones capture our imagination.
New worlds are rather difficult for Endeavour to resist.

FUN FOOD DESTINATIONS
Virginia & Surrounding States
Sometimes the destination can be lunch.
There are restaurants, roadside stands, bakeries, diners, markets and wonderfully strange places scattered across Virginia and the surrounding states that might be worth a drive simply because there is something there we want to try.
This isn’t about restaurant reviewing or chasing somebody else’s list of the “best” places to eat. It’s about finding destinations where the food itself provides a good excuse to get Endeavour on the road — especially unusual regional foods, local institutions, eccentric establishments and places that simply sound like fun.
Some may become stops along larger missions.
Others may be reason enough for the mission themselves.
After all, we’re already planning to cross state lines for barbecue.

THE STANDING STONES AT FOUR QUARTERS
Artemas, Pennsylvania
Hidden in the Pennsylvania landscape is something unexpected: a modern circle of standing stones being constructed at the Four Quarters Interfaith Sanctuary.
The project is substantial — an elliptical circle approximately 200 by 160 feet, ultimately requiring around one hundred individual stone slabs. The builders describe the project as a modern continuation of the ancient human impulse that produced the megalithic monuments of Europe and elsewhere. Some individual stones weigh more than 10,000 pounds.
More than simply something unusual to photograph, this feels like a place that needs to be experienced from inside the circle. Four Quarters itself describes the Standing Stones in much the same way: something whose meaning becomes apparent through standing among them rather than merely looking at them from afar.
Stone, landscape, human effort, symbolism and a place most people probably don’t expect to find in Pennsylvania.
That’s enough to put it on Endeavour’s horizon.

Explore the Standing Stones at Four Quarters
COLUMCILLE MEGALITH PARK
Bangor, Pennsylvania
Another Pennsylvania destination built around stone, landscape and experience — but with a distinctly Celtic character.
Columcille Megalith Park describes itself as a Celtic-inspired outdoor sanctuary and a “Land of Myth and Mystery,” inviting visitors to travel quietly through the grounds. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk and has spent nearly five decades developing as a place centered around megaliths, nature, contemplation and Celtic-inspired traditions.
This feels tailor-made for an Endeavour mission with a camera: wander rather than rush, explore the stones and landscape, see how the place changes with weather and light, and find out what it actually feels like to walk through it.
And paired with Four Quarters, there’s the possibility of something larger:
a Pennsylvania Standing Stones expedition.
Not necessarily on the same day—but two related destinations that could eventually become either separate missions or parts of a larger journey.
