Going somewhere just to see what’s there.

That’s the philosophy behind The Kusanagi Expedition, a personal journey of exploration, discovery, photography, and storytelling.

It’s about getting out into the world, visiting interesting places, experiencing different cultures, discovering history, appreciating nature, and finding the extraordinary in places both familiar and unfamiliar.

Sometimes that means traveling hundreds of miles. Other times, adventure might be waiting just down the road.

The destination isn’t always what matters.

Sometimes it’s simply the experience of going.

How It Began

The expedition grew from a lifelong curiosity about the world and a love of photography, history, and storytelling.

Years spent working as a photojournalist, exploring through hobbies such as geocaching, and experiencing places and events both ordinary and extraordinary helped shape that curiosity.

Now, the goal is simple: make more time to explore, discover, and experience the world—and share the stories that come from those adventures.

Our Mission

To Explore. Follow curiosity, venture beyond the familiar, and discover places worth visiting.

To Discover. Learn about the people, cultures, history, and natural world around us.

To Experience. Be present, participate, make memories, and bring home stories worth telling.

And because exploration should also be fun, we’ve given the project a little Star Trek personality, complete with our own fictional starship, the U.S.S. Kusanagi.

But the destinations, photographs, experiences, and stories are all real.

The starship is imaginary. The adventures aren’t.
