What began as a change of plans became a day of aircraft, spacecraft, unexpected stops, and a few discoveries along the way.

The journey began at the Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, where an old friend — Space Shuttle Discovery — waited beneath the hangar roof. From there, the day continued into Annandale with stops at Lil’ Thingamajigs and Shilla Bakery & Cafe, before ending in Manassas with an enormous slice from Benny Capolago’s Pizza.

It wasn’t the mission originally planned.

It was the mission we ended up having.
